Italy: Tajani, Crosetto to address MPs on widening Middle East crisis

4 Marzo 2026

(Adnkronos) – Foreign minister Antonio Tajani and defence minister Guido Crosetto will Thursday report to parliament on the escalating crisis in the Middle East, where Iran has responded to strikes on its military sites begun by the United States and Israel at the weekend by launching drone and missile attacks on US allies in the region, also in retaliation for the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other top leadership figures.

MPs will vote on several resolutions, according to the parliament’s statement.

Italy’s premier Giorgia Meloni chaired a new meeting on Wednesday on the US-Iran-Israel crisis and its economic impact with Tajani, defence minister Guido Crosetto, finance minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, cabinet under-secretaries Alfredo Mantovano and Giovanbattista Fazzolari, and the heads of Italy’s intelligence agencies, with transport minister Matteo Salvini attending via video link, Meloni’s office said in a statement.

On Tuesday, Meloni held a meeting on the crisis in the Middle East attended by Tajani, Crosetto, environment and energy security minister Gilbert Pichetto Frattin, Mantovano and Fazzolari. Italian major Eni’s chief executive Claudio Descalzi and gas grid operator Snam’s CEO Agostino Scornajenchi also joined the second part of the meeting, Meloni’s office stated.
