(Adnkronos) –

Italy is looking at ways of mitigating the effect on companies of the widening conflict in the Middle East between Iran and the United States and its allies – which is paralysing globally crucial energy shipments from the Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz and sending oil prices soaring – foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Tuesday.

“The government is assessing the consequences of the crisis in Iran on the energy sector and taking measures to help companies involved in foreign trade,” Tajani stated.

Tajani was speaking on the sidelines of the Arctic Circle – Polar Dialogue forum in Rome taking place at Italy’s National Research Council (CNR) headquarters in Rome.

“I have already spoken with (state investment agency) Simest, (Italy’s trade agency) ICE and (state credit export agency) Sace to assess the aid that we can give,” Tajani continued.

“The government will be managing the overall situation, but we are already working on the economic aspects to try to promote and support exporting companies. The Gulf is a rapidly growing market for our exports,” Tajani underlined.
