(Adnkronos) – French President Emmanuel Macron announced today, during a speech from the Ile Longue naval base, in the roadstead of Brest (Finistère), that France is “progressively” entering a new phase of its nuclear deterrence, which he described as “advanced deterrence”.
“We must strengthen – he said – our nuclear deterrence in the face of the combination of threats” that is emerging, and “we must reflect on our deterrence strategy in depth in the European continent, in full respect of our sovereignty, through the progressive implementation of what I would call advanced deterrence,” declared the French president.
“We are living through a period of geopolitical upheavals fraught with risks, and our fellow citizens are fully aware of this. This period justifies a strengthening of our model,” explained Macron.
