(Adnkronos) – “At least two people” out of the ten who were on board the speedboat, registered in Florida, involved on Wednesday in a shootout with Cuban security forces in Havana’s territorial waters, were American citizens. This was announced by a spokesperson for the US State Department, specifying, in a statement to Europa Press, that one of the American citizens is among the four killed, while the other is among the injured who were arrested by Cuban security forces.
The spokesperson adds that a third person is reported to be in possession of a K-1 visa, which allows entry into the US for those who are about to marry an American citizen, and that others “may turn out to be legal permanent residents in the US” as investigations continue. Furthermore, it was announced that the owner of the speedboat stated that the vessel had been stolen by one of his employees.
Cuban authorities had said that the ten involved in what they called an “attempted infiltration for terrorist purposes” were Cuban residents in the United States, providing all their identities and specifying that two members of the group, Amijail Sanchez and Leordán Cruz, who were injured in the shootout, are on the list, “shared” with the United States, of wanted persons for “acts of terrorism”.
