Kim: ‘no reason not to get along with US, but no hostile policies’

(Adnkronos) – Kim Jong-un says he is ready to resume dialogue with the United States if they “respect the position” of North Korea and “withdraw their hostile policy” towards Pyongyang, which is “ready for peaceful coexistence” as well as “eternal confrontation”. “We will prepare in every way for confrontation with the US in the future, as we are doing now – Kim said at the end of the Workers’ Party Congress – However, if the United States respects the current position of our State, as specified in the Constitution, and withdraws its hostile policy towards North Korea, there is no reason why we cannot get along with the United States.”

According to the North Korean leader, the future of relations between Pyongyang and Washington “depends entirely on the attitude” of the United States, and if they “do not deviate from their usual practices” towards North Korea, they will find a “proportionate response”. “There are sufficient means and methods,” Kim stated, according to declarations released by the Kcna agency.

North Korea, he added, is ready for both “peaceful coexistence” and “eternal confrontation”. “This choice is up to us,” he insisted, pointing a finger at what he considers “the usual violent and authoritarian approach” of the US Administration, whose policies “are producing a significant change in the international order” and in “multilateralism.”

“The arbitrary American practices that generate disputes and disorder in the world are not new to us, because they are simply a continuation of the dishonest and hegemonic practices we have always witnessed,” he maintained, speaking of an “increasingly chaotic and unpredictable” situation in the world.”
