UK, attack on Manchester mosque foiled, Starmer ‘concerned, more security’

25 Febbraio 2026

(Adnkronos) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he was ”concerned” about what happened at the Manchester mosque, where a man was arrested after entering the place of worship during Ramadan prayers with several weapons including an axe. The suspect, a white man in his forties, was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and drug possession. Manchester police explained that they are not investigating for terrorism, but that the man remains in custody for questioning. In a statement, the mosque said that ”a serious security incident” had occurred.

”I am concerned about the incident at Manchester Central Mosque. I know it will be a source of concern for Muslim communities, especially during Ramadan, a period of peace and reflection,” Starmer wrote on ‘X’. ”I thank the volunteers and emergency services for their prompt response. We have allocated up to £40 million for additional security measures at mosques, Muslim schools and community centers, and we will continue to act to ensure that communities can live without fear,” he added.
