Dollar Weaker around 155 Yen amid U.S. Tariff Uncertainty

24 Febbraio 2026

Tokyo, Feb. 24 (Jiji Press)–The dollar was weaker around 155 yen in Tokyo trading Tuesday morning amid growing uncertainty over U.S. tariff policy. At noon, the greenback stood at 154.90-91 yen, down from 155.49-50 yen at 5 p.m. Friday. The Tokyo market was closed Monday for a national holiday. In overseas trading on Monday, the U.S. currency slid to around 154 yen at one point, following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday against President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs. In response to the ruling, the Trump administration announced additional 10 pct tariffs on all imports to replace the reciprocal tariffs. However, the president said on social media later that the additional tariffs would be raised to 15 pct. A wait-and-see mood regarding U.S. tariff policy appears to be growing among market participants. On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average finished the morning session at 57,256.55, up 430.85 points, or 0.75 pct, from Friday’s closing, despite hefty losses on Wall Street overnight.
