(Adnkronos) – The long-time correspondent in Turkey for the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle has been arrested in Ankara. Alican Uluda was stopped in front of his family by 30 officers and transferred to Istanbul police headquarters where he will soon appear before a magistrate. Deutsche Welle director Barbara Massing has called for his immediate release. According to DW, the journalist will be formally accused of spreading misleading information and insulting the President and the nation, the state, and its institutions in connection with a post published 18 months ago on X in which he criticized the release of alleged ISIS militants and accused public officials of corruption. His home was searched and his devices were seized. In 2021, Uluda was awarded the Raif Badawi Award for courageous journalism in Germany.
