(Adnkronos) – Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani was on Friday set to hold talks in Stuttgart with counterpart Johann Wadephul during their attendance at Germany’s ruling conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU)’s party congress, foreign ministry said in a statement.
“The presence of the head of the foreign minister underlines the bond between Italy and Germany, following the success of the intergovernmental summit in Rome last month and ahead of the 4 April celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties between the two countries,” said the statement.
A strategic document on minerals recently unveiled by Tajani and Wadephul to the EU executive, the European Commission, placed the issue of critical raw minerals at the centre of bilateral cooperation “with a view to mitigating dependencies also on supply chains for European companies,” the statement said.
Germany’s Chancellor and CDU leader Friedrich Merz and his predecessor and long-time party rival former Chancellor Angela Merkel are attending congress, where Merz is seeking re-election. Conference delegates will also hammer out the CDU’s main policy guidelines for the coming years, according to the statement.
