(Adnkronos) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is running for re-election as CDU chairman at the two-day Congress in Stuttgart. He will participate in the proceedings as a guest of honor, his first presence at a congress since the end of his chancellorship, Angela Merkel. Crucial for observers, ahead of the vote in five states, starting with Baden-Wurttemberg in early March, is the percentage by which Merz will be re-elected. In 2024, he had received just under 9 percent of the votes, after receiving 94.6 percent of the votes in 2022.
