Tokyo, Feb. 19 (Jiji Press)–Only 18.9 pct of people in Japan have hopes for the new opposition Centrist Reform Alliance, falling far behind the 59.2 pct who do not, a Jiji Press poll suggested on Thursday. The party was formed by the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan and Komeito prior to the Feb. 8 general election. Of respondents who support the centrist party, 77.1 pct said they have hopes for it, surpassing the 11 pct who said they do not. Among CDP and Komeito supporters, meanwhile, the proportion of respondents with no hopes for the centrist party came to 50 pct and 40 pct, respectively. In the February survey, 6.3 pct of respondents expressed support for the new party, the second-largest group after those who backed the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. However, the support rate for the new party was slightly below the sum of 4.2 pct for the CDP and 2.5 pct for Komeito in the January survey. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
