Sudan, ’28 dead in drone attack on market’

16 Febbraio 2026

(Adnkronos) – At least 28 people have died in an attack that hit a market in North Kordofan, Sudan. This is what the Emergency Lawyers organization reported on X, the day after the alleged massacre, stating that “drones” “bombed the market in the Al-Safiya area” with a provisional toll of “28 dead and dozens injured”.

The attack was reported from the Sodari area. According to the organization, which documents human rights violations since the beginning of the conflict, the death toll is likely to increase as everything happened last night “at a time when the market was full of civilians, including women, children, and the elderly.”

“Attacking markets and civilian infrastructure constitutes a serious violation of humanitarian law and a blatant disregard for the principle of civilian protection in armed conflicts,” reads the statement released on social media, urging all parties to “immediately” cease drone attacks, as well as any attacks against civilian infrastructure, and to “strictly respect international law.” The organization calls on the international community to denounce “repeated violations” that “aggravate the suffering of the population.”
