Tokyo, Feb. 13 (Jiji Press)–Kimi Onoda, Japanese minister in charge of intellectual property strategy, on Friday criticized a new video-generating artificial intelligence product developed by Chinese technology giant ByteDance Ltd. “A situation in which existing copyrighted materials are used without permission cannot be overlooked,” Onoda said at a press conference, referring to Seedance 2.0, recently unveiled by ByteDance. The Japanese government plans to understand the current situation and seek improvements while working with the company. Seedance can generate high-quality videos from prompts based on videos and images uploaded as inputs. Videos created by Seedance using Japanese copyrighted materials without permission have spread online, including one in which “Ultraman,” the main character in the major Japanese television science-fiction series, engages in a fight with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
