USA, House rejects ban on snap votes, GOP dissidents open to revoking Trump tariffs

11 Febbraio 2026

(Adnkronos) – The U.S. House of Representatives has rejected the rule that would have prohibited members from holding snap votes to abolish tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. The measure was defeated by 214 votes against and 217 in favor, with the support of some dissident Republicans, including Kevin Kiley, Don Bacon, and Thomas Massie, who joined the Democrats.

“I don’t like pausing the important work of the House, but Congress must be able to discuss tariffs,” Bacon wrote on X. The rejection of the rule paves the way for immediate votes on resolutions to revoke tariffs, the first of which could be held as early as today, including a measure to annul the national emergency declaration used by Trump to impose tariffs on Canada.

The vote represents a victory for free-market conservatives, who oppose unilateral tariffs that, according to critics and associations like the Taxpayers Protection Alliance, have increased prices, created economic uncertainty, and complicated business operations.
