Trump wants Bannon’s conviction for not testifying on January 6 to be overturned

10 Febbraio 2026

(Adnkronos) – With a motion signed by Jeanine Pirro, Donald Trump’s loyalist appointed Attorney General of Washington, the Department of Justice has requested that Steven Bannon’s conviction for refusing to testify to Congress about his role in the January 6 assault on Congress be overturned.

In the motion presented to Judge Carl Nichols, who presided over the 2022 trial of the former White House strategist which concluded with a 4-month prison sentence that Bannon has already served, Pirro, who is the only prosecutor to sign, states that the annulment of the indictment and thus the conviction is “in the interest of justice.” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, former personal lawyer to Trump, also calls the move a necessary correction “of the previous administration’s use of justice as a political weapon.”

The House committee that investigated the events of January 6 had summoned Bannon to question him about his contacts with the organizers of the rally that preceded the attack on Congress, and about his contacts with Trump as part of the attempt to subvert the election results.
