Starmer, ‘I will never back down from the mandate to change the country’

10 Febbraio 2026

(Adnkronos) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer reiterated that he will never back down from the mandate received and that he will continue to fight for the citizens, despite the earthquake that hit Downing Street after the publication of three million files related to the Epstein case. “I will never back down from the mandate I have been given to change this country. I will never back down from the people I have a duty to fight for, and I will never back down from the country I love,” he declared, speaking in Hertfordshire, while joking that “it has been an intense week.”

Starmer reiterated that “whatever is happening in the world, what matters most is the cost of living, being able to pay bills, moving forward, improving living standards, having public services that work.” “These are the things that matter enormously to people,” he added, rejecting criticism from those who argue that the Labour government should “fight a different battle, a battle with itself instead of a battle for the millions of people who need us to fight for them.”

The Prime Minister then attacked Reform UK, stating that “the real battle in politics is not within the Labour Party, but against the right-wing politics that challenge it: the politics of Reform, the politics of ‘divide, divide, divide’, of ‘resentment, resentment, resentment’, which will tear our country apart.” “This is the battle we are in,” he concluded, “and I will be there as long as I have breath in my body.”
