(Adnkronos) – The Russian federal communications oversight body has announced that it has imposed restrictions on the Telegram messaging platform for alleged violations of Russian law, as Moscow seeks to push citizens to use national online services, which are subject to much stricter controls.
The Roskomnadzor agency stated that it “will continue to introduce gradual restrictions” against Telegram, claiming that the platform does not comply with regulations requiring foreign companies to host Russian user data on servers located within the country and that it does not do enough to counter the use of the service for alleged “criminal and terrorist purposes,” according to state media reports.
