(Adnkronos) – Safeguarding mothers’ and newborns’ health, fighting gender-based violence, child marriage and female genital mutilation will remain priorities for Italy, foreign minister Antonio Tajani wrote Tuesday on X after talks in Rome with the UN population fund chief Diene Keita.
“In an international context marked by demographic and civil crises, Italy intends to continue actively supporting #UNFPA’s mandate and investing in the protection of maternal and newborn health, as well as in the prevention of and fight against gender-based violence, in line with our action within the UN Human Rights Council,” Tajani wrote.
“We will continue to stand against practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation, an area in which our country ranked as the leading international contributor in 2025,” he added.
