Italy vows to work with Ireland during its European Union Council presidency

(Adnkronos) – Italy wants to help Ireland speed up European Union enlargement, boost Europe’s competitiveness, defence and industrial growth and the green transition – key priorities for the Irish rotating EU Council presidency from July-December – foreign minister Antonio Tajani stated on Thursday. 

“Very positive meeting on the margins of the #FAC (Foreign Affairs Council) with (Ireland’s) foreign, trade and defence minister @Helen McEntee,” Tajani wrote on X (formerly Twitter). 

“I assured her (McEntee) of Italy’s full support for the Irish Presidency of the EU Council, which starts in July,” Tajani went on. 

“Italy is ready to contribute to common efforts to accelerate the enlargement process,” Tajani wrote, referrring to the accession of candidated countries including Ukraine, Moldova and the Western Balkans. 

“We stand read to support efforts to improve competitiveness and industrial growth in Europe, harnessing the potential of the green (and digital) transition and the strengthening of our continent’s defence,” Tajani wrote. 

Italy and Ireland “will also work together to consolidate transatlantic unity and strengthen the European pillar of #Nato,” Tajani underlined.
