(Adnkronos) – The election campaign for the renewal of the House of Representatives, for a four-year term, has begun in Japan, ahead of the February 8 vote. In the running, local media write, there could be more than 1,270 candidates for the 465 seats in the House.
These are the first elections since Sanae Takaichi became head of government in October, the first female prime minister of the Land of the Rising Sun who called for early elections to consolidate parliamentary support, and since the end of the historic alliance between the LDP and Komeito. The last elections were in October 2024. Takaichi has promised to resign in case of defeat.
