Philippines, ex-president Duterte questioned by ICC on February 23

(Adnkronos) – The former president of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, accused of crimes against humanity in connection with his war on drug trafficking, will be questioned on February 23 by judges of the International Criminal Court. This was announced today by the Hague-based tribunal, according to which the 80-year-old Duterte, president of the Philippines from 2016 to 2022 and previously mayor of Davao City – the alleged crimes concern both mandates – will appear in a hearing defined as “confirmation of charges” which serves for the judges to decide if the accusations against him are strong enough to proceed with a trial. Duterte had been arrested on March 11 last year in the Philippines on an ICC warrant.
