(Adnkronos) – Almost half of Americans, 48%, consider the killing of Alex Pretti by Ice agents unjustified, a percentage that rises to 63% among people who have seen the videos of the brutal killing that occurred last Saturday in Minneapolis. This emerges from a YouGov poll which records that just 20% support the Trump administration’s version, i.e., that the agents acted in self-defense because the man was allegedly armed.
The same poll indicates that 46% of Americans support the abolition of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, against 41% who oppose it. Meanwhile, another poll, conducted by Politico, indicates that overall 49% of Americans, including one in five Americans who voted for Donald Trump in 2024, consider the deportation policy entrusted to anti-immigrant police too aggressive.
In particular, one in three Trump voters states that while they may agree with the campaign, they do not approve of how it is conducted. 38% of Americans believe that priority should be given to deporting people with criminal records, and 21% believe that only these should be deported. Trump and his administration repeat that they are removing “the worst of the worst”; in reality, the pressure to achieve the goal of millions of deportees has led to targeting every immigrant, or rather anyone who ‘appears’, by appearance or accent, to be non-American.
