Iran: UN Human Rights Council extends fact-finding mission

23 Gennaio 2026

(Adnkronos) – The United Nations Human Rights Council has voted to extend the ‘Fact-Finding Mission’ on Iran, established due to the repression of protests that erupted in the country. The decision was adopted with the approval of a resolution that extends the mission’s mandate by two years and broadens it.

25 Council members voted in favor of the extension, while seven voted against and 15 abstained. The mission was created in November 2022 following the repression of demonstrations that erupted after the death in custody of young Iranian Mahsa Amini.
