Beijing, ‘ups and downs with Trump, but overall stable relations’

20 Gennaio 2026

(Adnkronos) – “Ups and downs”. This is China’s assessment of relations with Washington in the first year of Donald Trump’s second term. This was stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun, specifying that relations remain overall stable.

“In the past year, China-US relations have experienced ups and downs, but have maintained overall dynamic stability,” Guo said, adding that “occasional variability” is to be considered normal. Beijing, he stressed, is ready to “work with Washington to stabilize relations” between the two powers.
