(Adnkronos) – A surfer was seriously injured in a shark attack, the third in just two days in Sydney Bay. The 20-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition after sustaining serious leg injuries, Australian city police said. “The man was pulled from the water by people on the beach who began first aid before the ambulance arrived,” South Wales stated.
The attack occurred after a 12-year-old boy was attacked by a large shark yesterday while diving with friends at a beach called Shark Beach. “It was a horrific scene, now the boy is fighting for his life,” said today the commander of the maritime police who intervened to rescue the boy in the water. Fortunately, the 11-year-old victim of the third shark attack, which bit the child’s surfboard, remained unharmed.
Authorities have ordered the closure of the bay’s beaches, urging the public not to swim, explaining that recent rains have flowed into the bay and the combination of brackish seawater and splashes from children’s games has created “a perfect storm” for a shark attack.
