(Adnkronos) – Italy’s premier Giorgia Meloni and Japanese counterpart Sanae Takaichi will continue strengthening their countries’ strategic cooperation across a raft of areas, “all the way to the great global challenges,” Meloni wrote Friday on X after talks in Tokyo with Takaichi.

“We reaffirmed our determination to foster ever-stronger strategic cooperation: from the economy to innovation, from technology to industry, from security to research, all the way to the great global challenges,” read Meloni’s post.

Italy and Japan “are reliable partners, capable of working together for stability, growth, and an international order based on rules, dialogue, and responsibility,” the post continued.

“A friendship that is growing stronger, collaboration that looks far ahead,” Meloni underlined.

Meloni’s “important” talks with Takaichi strengthened “a relationship founded on mutual respect, friendship, and shared values, which is rooted in over 160 years of diplomatic relations and looks decisively toward the future,” she wrote.

“In a world that is changing rapidly, strengthening ties like ours means building security and real opportunities for our citizens and for future generations,” Meloni stated.

Meloni is on an official visit to Japan from 15 to 17 January.
