Over 30 Pct Oppose DPFP Joining Ruling Bloc: Jiji Poll

Tokyo, Jan. 15 (Jiji Press)–Over 30 pct of respondents oppose the Democratic Party for the People joining the ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party and the Japan Innovation Party, a Jiji Press opinion poll showed Thursday. According to the poll, 32.3 pct said they do not think the DPFP should join the ruling coalition, while 21.8 pct said the party should. Those who chose neither position accounted for 45.9 pct. The survey also showed that 36.9 pct of respondents supporting the LDP and 51.9 pct of JIP supporters said they want the DPFP to join the ruling bloc. Among DPFP supporters, 38.1 pct were against such a move, while 31.0 pct were in favor. Meanwhile, 55.1 pct of those who support the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, which is seeking to work with the DPFP, objected to the DPFP joining the ruling bloc. Late last year, Prime Minister and LDP President Sanae Takaichi agreed with DPFP leader Yuichiro Tamaki to raise the income tax threshold from the current 1.6 million yen to 1.78 million yen. In the poll, 70.1 pct of respondents said they appreciate the agreement, while 8.0 pct said they do not.
