(Adnkronos) – The German armed forces today launched the operation to distribute questionnaires to 18-year-olds, as part of the new voluntary military service program approved by a law in force since January 1st. A ministry spokesperson confirmed this to Dpa. All young people aged 18 and over will receive the form, the first step to determine suitability and motivation to serve in the Armed Forces. For men, completion is mandatory; for women, it is optional. The first volunteers could begin serving in the coming months. The program is intended to facilitate the expansion of the armed forces, which will increase from 180,000 to 260,000 units. These will be joined by reservists, a force made up of 200,000 men.
