Cuba, state honors for the 32 soldiers killed in US raid for Maduro’s arrest

(Adnkronos) – Cuba welcomed with state honors the bodies of the 32 soldiers of Nicolas Maduro’s Guard killed in the US raid for the arrest of the President of Venezuela and his wife Cilia Flores last January third. The ceremony took place at José Martí International Airport in Havana. President Miguel Díaz-Canel and former president and historic Cuban leader Raúl Castro soon took part. The coffins of the fallen soldiers, wrapped in the Cuban flag, were then transferred to the headquarters of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, where they will be displayed to the public.

The Minister of the Interior, General Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas, praised the “heroism” of the Cuban “fighters” who fell in Venezuela. “With the clarity that history demands, we do not welcome them with resignation, but with deep love and eternal commitment. Because we know that death does not defeat those who fall with a rifle in hand, defending a just cause,” he declared. “The peoples of our America will forever recognize and appreciate their supreme example of sacrifice and loyalty,” he also stated. “Imperialism will never be able to buy the dignity of the Cuban people.”
