(Adnkronos) – Italy’s Senate speaker Ignazio La Russa on Wednesday held talks in Rome with Albania’s Parliament speaker Niko Peleshi, according to a statement.
Italy launched a ‘strategic and operational’ partnership with European Union candidate Albania in November, signing 15 agreements spanning defence, energy, development and cultural cooperation and migration.
Rome strongly supports Tirana’s EU membership bid and the government’s renewed focus on Albania fits with premier Giorgia Meloni’s vision of shared migration management and Italy’s centrality in the Western Balkans and the Mediterranean, according to observers.
