Trump, Cuba in the crosshairs: “Stop oil from Venezuela, I advise an agreement”

(Adnkronos) –
After Venezuela, Cuba is in Donald Trump’s crosshairs. The President of the United States predicts a collapse of Havana, reiterating forecasts already made in recent days. For the first time, however, Trump refers to a potential agreement with the island.

“For many years Cuba has lived thanks to the large quantities of oil and money coming from Venezuela. In exchange, Cuba has provided ‘security services’ to the last two Venezuelan dictators, but not anymore!”!, the American president writes on Truth, recalling the link between Havana and Caracas with the consolidated exchange of men for Nicolas Maduro’s security and oil.

The Venezuelan leader relied on Cuban military personnel to form his escort: in the January 3 attack, at least 32 men reportedly died. “Most of those Cubans died in last week’s US attack, and Venezuela no longer needs protection from the thugs and extortionists who have held it hostage for so many years,” Trump says.

“Venezuela now has the United States of America, the most powerful military in the world (by far!), to protect it, and we will protect it. There will be no more oil or money for Cuba. Zero!”, continues the number 1 of the White House before the not-so-veiled proposal: “I strongly advise reaching an agreement, before it’s too late”.

The invitation, if it can be called that, is peremptorily rejected by the sender. ”No one can tell us what to do,” says Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel. Cuba is “ready to defend the homeland to the last drop of blood. Cuba is a free, independent, and sovereign nation,” he adds in a post on X.

Bruno Rodriguez, Havana’s Foreign Minister, also expresses himself on Elon Musk’s social media. “Cuba does not receive, nor has it ever received, monetary or material compensation for security services provided to any country. Unlike the United States, we do not have a government that lends itself to mercenary activities, blackmail, or military coercion against other states,” he writes on X.

“Like any other country,” he then emphasizes, “Cuba has the absolute right to import fuel from markets willing to export it and that exercise their right to develop commercial relations without interference or subordination to the unilateral coercive measures of the United States.” “Law and justice are on Cuba’s side. The United States behaves like a criminal and uncontrolled hegemon that threatens peace and security, not only in Cuba and in this hemisphere, but throughout the world,” he adds.
