Protests in Iran, Tehran accuses: “Violence unleashed by US and Israeli terrorist agents”

(Adnkronos) – Iranian state media break silence on the demonstrations that rocked the country overnight, claiming that “terrorist agents” from the United States and Israel set fires and unleashed violence. A brief report broadcast by state TV this morning claims that the protests led to violence that caused casualties. In addition, “private cars, motorcycles, fire trucks, and buses” were set on fire.

Meanwhile, several areas of Iran have experienced a digital blackout, with internet connections down and mobile phones unreachable even by phone. Video footage shows protesters setting fire to an office of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting in Isfahan during the protests. Anti-regime activists have shared footage appearing to show thousands of people marching through the streets of Mashhad, blocking a major avenue in the northeastern city. Mashhad is known as the birthplace of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and is the country’s second-largest city after Tehran.

Footage from Tehran shows overturned and burned vehicles. According to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, citing Iranian state media, two Iranian regime officers were killed during protests in the city of Kermanshah, western Iran.
