(Adnkronos) – Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, using the Oreshnik missile system and drones, in response to Kyiv’s alleged attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow reported this, adding that last night “in response to the terrorist attack by the Kyiv regime on the residence of the President of the Russian Federation in the Novgorod region, which occurred on the night of December 29, 2025, the Russian Armed Forces launched a massive attack using long-range precision weapons, land and naval, including the Oreshnik medium-range land-based missile system, as well as attack drones, against critical targets in Ukraine”.

The ministry stressed that “the objectives of the attack have been achieved.” “The production facilities for unmanned aerial vehicles used in the terrorist attack, as well as energy infrastructure supporting the Ukrainian military-industrial complex, were damaged,” the Russian military department added.

At least four people are reported dead and another 19 injured in the raids. Among the victims was a paramedic, while 14 of the 19 injured were hospitalized, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported. “A paramedic died and four were injured while providing assistance in the Darnytskyi district,” he added.

Authorities stated that residential buildings in the Pechersk and Desnianskyi districts suffered damage due to drones and falling debris, and that a fire reportedly broke out in the Shevchenkivsky district. The first explosions were reported in Kyiv around 11:45 PM local time. Previously, the air force had issued an alert for a ballistic missile threat and reported drones heading towards the capital.

Another nationwide missile threat was issued around 2:13 AM local time, after the Ukrainian air force detected the takeoff of several Russian fighter jets. Further cruise missile explosions shook the Ukrainian capital around 3 AM local time, a Kyiv Independent journalist reported from the scene, as Russia continued its night attack. Following the attack, a fire reportedly broke out in a residential building in Kyiv’s Comfort Town residential complex. Klitschko added that in some areas of the Ukrainian capital, the supply of running water and electricity was interrupted due to Russian attacks on critical infrastructure.
