The United States could control Venezuela for years. This is the prospect that President Donald Trump outlines in a long interview with the New York Times, after the operation with which Washington captured leader Nicolas Maduro in Caracas. The president does not answer precisely the question about the duration of the ‘American supervision’: 3 months? 6 months? A year? Longer? “I would say much longer,” he says, envisioning an extra-large control.
“Only time will tell,” he dodges, highlighting the need to restart the country, starting with the oil industry. “We will rebuild it so that it produces a lot of profits. We will use the oil and we will take the oil. We will lower prices and give money to Venezuela, which desperately needs it.”
