(Adnkronos) – Foreign undersecretary Maria Tripodi is in Jakarta on a mission centred on growth diplomacy with Indonesia – one Italy’s top Asian business partners. The visit aims to bolster bilateral economic ties and dialogue, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

Cooperation opportunities in the digital economy, technological innovation and green transition sectors, and the potential of the space sector for civil and environmental applications – from land monitoring to maritime safety – were the focus of Tripodi’s talks with Indonesia’s coordinating minister for economic affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, and deputy foreign minister Arif Havas Oegroseno, said the statement.

Tripodi highlighted the need to strengthen bilateral relations in the areas of trade, investment, the relaunch of bilateral dialogue and coordination “on multilateral issues of mutual interest,” the statement continued.

Foreign minister Antonio Tajani’s export action plan views Indonesia as a market with high growth potential and an especially strategic one for Italian companies, the statement underlined.

Tripodi later held talks with ASEAN (The Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, the statement noted.

“Italy’s support for the Association’s central role in the stability and development of Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific will continue with conviction,” the statement cited Tripodi as saying.

Tripodi voiced “particular satisfaction” at the 10 million euro investment that got the Italy-ASEAN Development Partnership off the ground, “generating successes in the field of cooperation,” the statement concluded.

With the Indo-Pacific’s stability, prosperity and enhanced connectivity as its goal, the partnership’s cooperation priorities for 2022-2026 are the political, security, economic, and socio-cultural sectors.
