Venezuela: NYT, US pressure to expel officials from China, Russia, Cuba, and Iran

7 Gennaio 2026

(Adnkronos) – The United States is pressuring Venezuela’s interim government to expel officials and advisors from China, Russia, Cuba, and Iran. American officials told the New York Times that the request was presented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a private meeting with congressional leaders, the day after Nicolas Maduro’s capture.

Rubio also reportedly asked interim leader Delcy Rodriguez to reopen oil trade with Washington, as publicly requested by Donald Trump. The measure could lead to a partial liberalization of the national oil industry to re-attract American companies, possibly with forms of compensation.
