(Adnkronos) – Chinese leader Xi Jinping is ready to maintain “close” contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin for “continuous new progress” in bilateral relations. The official Chinese agency Xinhua reports a New Year’s greeting message from Xi to Putin in which the Chinese leader highlights how 2025 marked a “concrete step in the strategic partnership between Beijing and Moscow for coordination in the new era”.
China, which has never explicitly condemned Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and Russia “have supported each other at the United Nations and in other multilateral contexts,” Xi said, thus “contributing” – in his opinion – to “improving global governance.”
