Bolivia: former minister and presidential candidate Eduardo del Castillo released

31 Dicembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – The former minister and presidential candidate for Mas in the last Bolivian elections, Eduardo del Castillo, has been released. He had been detained yesterday as he was about to board a flight from Viru Viru airport in Santa Cruz, bound for Chile. “I was illegally deprived of my freedom,” he denounced, after being stopped with his brother-in-law on the accusation – as reconstructed by the newspaper El Deber – of having obstructed the work of the Police.

Both del Castillo and his brother-in-law have been released. The accusation against them has been dropped. Del Castillo explained to the judge that the purpose of the trip was to take his youngest daughter, diagnosed with autism, to Santiago, Chile, for a neurological visit. He had chosen to make this trip with his wife, brother-in-law, other daughter, and the psychopedagogy specialist who follows his daughter. Del Castillo reported delays considered irregular during the checks and stated that, despite having all documents in order, a police officer had warned him that they would “look for any pretext” to prevent him from leaving.
