Tokyo, Dec. 25 (Jiji Press)–The Japanese Electrical Electronic and Information Union, which consists of labor unions at electronics makers, plans to set its unified pay scale hike demand at 18,000 yen or more per month for next year’s “shunto” spring wage negotiations, Jiji Press learned Thursday. The demand will be the highest since the industrial labor group adopted its current demand style in 1998. The group sought an increase of at least 17,000 yen in the 2025 shunto. It will formally adopt the 2026 demand at a meeting of its central committee next month. The umbrella organization for electronics industry unions hopes to achieve pay increases that outpace inflation and also curb the widening wage gap between small and large companies. On Dec. 3, the Japan Council of Metalworkers’ Unions, which comprises five industrial labor groups including the electronics industry group, adopted a policy of demanding pay scale hikes of at least 12,000 yen per month.
