(Adnkronos) – At least five people are victims of the plane crash that occurred in the waters off the American state of Texas, where a Mexican Navy aircraft engaged in a humanitarian mission crashed. Eight people were on board the plane, the Mexican Navy Secretariat said in a statement. According to the agency, two people survived the accident while five others died, another person traveling on the flight is still missing, despite searches by the United States Coast Guard.
The incident occurred as the plane approached Galveston, Texas. The specialized medical transport mission was coordinated with a Mexican foundation that cares for children with severe burns. According to the flight tracking website Flight Radar, the plane took off from Merida, in the Mexican state of Yucatán at 6:46 PM GMT and was last recorded at 9:01 PM GMT over Galveston Bay, near Scholes International Airport.
