New York, Dec. 19 (Jiji Press)–U.S. doughnut store chain Krispy Kreme Inc. said Friday that it will sell its operations in Japan to Unison Capital Inc. for about 65 million dollars. “Unison is a proven, skilled operator with deep expertise in the retail beverage and restaurant sectors,” Krispy Kreme CEO Josh Charlesworth said in a statement. “We believe they are an ideal long-term partner to operate and grow Krispy Kreme in Japan.” The sale is expected to be completed during the January-March quarter of 2026. Krispy Kreme will use the proceeds to repay debt. Krispy Kreme, founded in North Carolina in 1937, entered the Japanese market in 2006. It currently has 89 stores in Japanese cities including Tokyo and Osaka. Unison, a private equity fund founded in 1998, is known for carrying out management reform and expanding the Sukesan Udon noodle restaurant chain, which is based in Fukuoka Prefecture, southwestern Japan.
