(Adnkronos) – The Wisconsin judge accused of trying to prevent ICE from arresting an undocumented migrant who was in her courtroom has been convicted. Hannah Dugan, a Milwaukee County court judge, was found guilty of obstructing federal agents but was acquitted of the second charge, that of actively hiding Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, who was in her courtroom to face assault charges.
According to prosecutors, Judge Dugan allegedly sent agents in one direction, while allowing Flores Ruiz and his lawyer to exit through a non-public door, in an attempt – the prosecution argued – to help him evade arrest. The man was eventually stopped outside the courthouse by ICE agents and was repatriated to Mexico last month.
The prosecution described the judge as a “frustrated and angry” person, while the defense spoke of “unjust accusations” based on “assumptions” and questioned the veracity of the evidence presented.
