(Adnkronos) – The United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, has ordered the immediate suspension of the Diversity Visa program, the US federal program that annually grants up to 55,000 visas to citizens of countries with low immigration rates, and which had benefited the man suspected of the Brown University shooting and of having shot a MIT professor, killing him.
“Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, the perpetrator of the Brown University shooting, entered the United States in 2017 through the Diversity Visa (DV-1) program and was granted a green card. This heinous individual should never have been allowed to enter our country,” the Secretary wrote on X, ordering the program’s suspension. “I immediately order USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) to suspend the DV-1 program to prevent other Americans from becoming victims of this disastrous program,” Noem declared.
