Sudan, blackout after drone attacks, 3 dead

18 Dicembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – Large-scale drone attack in eastern Sudan. A military source told AFP, accusing paramilitaries. The attacks, according to the source, hit an important power plant, three people were killed, and blackouts are reported in the country, which is the scene of a conflict between the Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that has been ongoing since 2023 and has caused tens of thousands of deaths and millions of displaced people.

“We have been without electricity since 2 AM,” Abdel Rahim al-Amin, an official in Port Sudan, told AFP. The attacks caused “blackouts in various states,” confirmed the Sudanese energy company, specifying that in Atbara – about 300 kilometers north of Khartoum – the attacks targeted transformers of the al-Muqrin power plant. An official working at the plant explained that the first attack occurred last night. A second attack hit rescuers, and two were killed, another person was injured.

“At dawn today, the militants launched 35 drones against the cities of Atbara, Al-Damer, and Berber, targeting civilian infrastructure,” a military source told AFP, attributing the attacks to the RSF. Emergency Lawyers, an NGO documenting the atrocities of the conflict, reported on X that in Atbara, the attacks hit civilian homes, killing one girl and injuring another. Silence, for now, from the RSF.
