Hitachi Rail invests $100 million in a new plant in Maryland, USA

(Adnkronos) –
Hitachi Rail has invested $100 million in a new plant in Maryland allocating about 30% to artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies. The plant can produce up to 20 railcars per month and will build subway cars for Washington D.C., Baltimore (Maryland), and Philadelphia (Pennsylvania). The Japanese news agency Jiji Press reports this detailing the group’s innovation, which, for example, uses a four-legged robot, similar to a dog, that moves nimbly in and out of vehicles under construction to identify irregularities and defects, taking on tasks previously performed by human workers. “American infrastructure has become extremely obsolete. This represents a significant opportunity for us,” emphasized the president of Hitachi Ltd., Toshiaki Tokunaga.
