(Adnkronos) – Today in Brussels “we will close another 5 chapters for Montenegro. In total there are 12”, which means that Podgorica “is at the top of the ranking” among the candidate countries to join the EU. This was stated by the European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, on the sidelines of the General Affairs Council and the twenty-fourth meeting of the conference for Montenegro’s accession to the EU.
The European Commission, Kos continues, “supports the vision of the Montenegrin authorities to close all chapters by the end of 2026. Obviously there is still a lot to do: to be able to close all chapters they will have to make many more reforms, especially in the areas of the judiciary, the fight against corruption and also the freedom of free media, but it is possible.”
The EU executive wishes Montenegro “success today and in the coming year. Good luck: 2025 has been a great success, but I am convinced that we can make 2026 even better,” Kos concludes. There are a total of 33 negotiation chapters for Montenegro’s accession to the EU.
