Maduro, ‘US people will stop crazy warmongers who want war for oil’

(Adnkronos) – “I know that the people of the United States will tie the hands of the crazy warmongers who want to impose a war for oil in South America.” This is what Nicolas Maduro said in a speech broadcast by Venezuelan state television Vtv, on the day the US carried out new raids against boats in the Pacific, killing eight people. The Venezuelan leader states that he trusts the “seriousness” of North American trade union leaders and political and religious movements who understand “the gravity of the threats” from the Donald Trump administration.

“Many political leaders, many, many opinion leaders are fully aware of the value of peace in America and of respect for Venezuela as an exemplary country, which respects the United States and international law, a peaceful and pacifist country,” Maduro continued, claiming to “know the United States very well,” a country that “I also love very much,” he added.

The Venezuelan leader then lashed out at Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado, accusing the opposition leader of conducting “a fascist campaign.” “She said something very serious, very serious that I don’t know if the Public Prosecutor’s Office has heard. She said that 60% of the Venezuelan population is involved in drug trafficking, meaning that out of 10 Venezuelans, 6 are involved in drug trafficking,” Maduro complained, stating that 89% of Venezuelans “repudiate” Machado for having supported “the gringa imperialist invasion” from Oslo, where she went for the Nobel.
