(Adnkronos) – Italy’s rightwing premier Giorgia Meloni has welcomed ultraconservative Jose Antonio Kast’s victory in Chile’s presidential election run-off on Sunday – the latest in a string of wins for the far-right in Latin America from Argentina to Ecuador.
“I congratulate my friend @joseantoniokast on his great success in the Chilean presidential elections,” Meloni wrote Monday on X.
“Italy and Chile are friendly nations, and I am certain that our bilateral relations will become even stronger, starting with economic cooperation and the fight against illegal immigration. Good luck!”
