Danish intelligence, Washington classified as ‘security risk’

(Adnkronos) – Danish intelligence has classified – for the first time – the United States as a security risk, marking a historic turning point in the assessments of one of Washington’s closest European allies. In its newly published annual report, the Danish Defense Intelligence Service denounces that the US is increasingly prioritizing its own interests, “using its economic and technological strength as a tool of power,” even at the expense of historical partners.

According to the document, Washington “uses economic power, including in the form of threats of very severe tariffs, to impose its will and no longer rules out the use of military force, even against allies,” a clear reference to the pressure exerted by Donald Trump to gain control of Greenland. Copenhagen’s alarm reflects growing European discomfort with the American stance, while the new US national strategy foresees that Europe could face a “risk of civilizational cancellation” in the next twenty years.

The report also highlights uncertainty about the future of relations between Washington and Beijing, with the United States increasingly focused on the Pacific and the Arctic in an attempt to contain China. This dynamic, according to Danish intelligence, fuels doubts about America’s role as guarantor of European security and increases pressure on EU states to strengthen deterrence and cooperation against Russia. In the worst-case scenario, Copenhagen warns, the West could find itself within a few years facing two simultaneous regional conflicts: in the Baltic with Moscow and in the Taiwan Strait with Beijing.
