Japan Govt Workers’ Winter Bonuses Average 702,200 Yen

10 Dicembre 2025

Tokyo, Dec. 10 (Jiji Press)–Japanese national public servants received winter bonuses Wednesday, with the average amount, excluding for those in managerial posts, coming to 702,200 yen. The figure for the workers with an average age of 32.9, including performance-based allowances, fell about 19,800 yen, or 2.7 pct, from a year before. If a bill to revise the law on government workers’ salaries based on the National Personnel Authority’s recommendations is passed, the amount would increase to some 746,100 yen, up 3.3 pct year on year. The difference will be paid later. Under normal circumstances, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi would receive about 5.79 million yen in winter bonuses. She will receive about 3.41 million yen actually, however, because she has been in office for a short period and will voluntarily return 30 pct of her bonus as part of administrative and fiscal reform measures. Takaichi took office in October. The amendment to the government worker salary law calls for setting annual bonuses at the equivalent of 4.65 months of salary, an increase of 0.05 month.
